The point of making wire sculptures was to learn how to use lines to make something appear three dimensional from all angles. We started by sketching an idea and how we thought we could put it together. I then started by making each side of the Ferris wheel. I then created the stand that they would rotate on. I connected the two sides of the wheel, and then made seats to hang on each connector.

This project was fun yet challenging. It is easy to picture something 3 dimensionally in your mind, but difficult to recreate it with just lines or wire. Some people felt that the wire was tough to work with, but I thought that came more from their inexperience than the wire itself. I actually ended up using an even higher gauge wire (e.g. coat hangers) while others switched to a lower gauge. I also really liked this project because it wasn't messy, which is rare in the art room.
